Women, The Peace Nourisher
Peace has been nourished by womankind ever since. We can note several campaign cases for peace where women played the leading role as followings. In April 1915, immediately after the outbreak of World War I, some 1,300 women gathered in Hague, Netherlands from the world, and issued a proclamation against the war, which became the parent of WILPF or Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom. Since 1925, jointly with women’s movement, WILPF has been active in the positive campaign on peace and reduction of armaments, by dispatching delegation and a mediation committee to the conflict region if the area was occupied or invaded by a major power, and participating in U.N. security council as an observer group. |
